Before What is one to do with a very old house whose foundation is crumbling beneath it? A house that, because of zoning, cannot be razed. It must be rebuilt. But what about the unsuitable bearing capacity of the soils under the existing foundation? What about the neighbor's concerns? And of course it had to be started in the dead of winter.

Phase One - The scope of work was to shore the structure in place and remove the existing full basement foundation and 6' of unsuitable material below the existing basement floor grade. Then install and compact 6' of new fill and construct a new foundation. White Builders had a different approach. We moved the structure off the foundation, replaced the fill, built the new foundation and slid the building back on.

After
Staircase Phase Two - After the building was set back on the foundation the fun began. After sitting on a rather wavy out of level foundation for so many years, the structure had a warp of its own. We had to jack portions of it down, other portions in and others out. After straightening all of this out the rest wasn't bad. We ended up with a product that pleased the neighbors, HPRE, the Architect and the occupant.
