Cadillac Cafe

Just when we thought we weren't going to have enough funding to complete the project we were notified of a donation by a recently deceased local businessman by the name of Cyril Hern. Most people in town at least new of Cyril. He was in the auto body business all his life and had a particular passion for Cadillacs
The flavor of the Diner was, on it's own, evolving into a kind of American Road trip theme of the Route 66 nature. When we got word of Cyril's help, the name Cadillac Cafe just kind of naturally fell into place. During one of our building inspections we learned that the local Building Commissioner, also a car buff and friend of Cyril, was in possesion of an autographed hubcap from Cyril's 1959 Caddy. It now hangs proudy in the Cafe as tribute to Cyril
Once the Road Trip theme was solidified a Cadillac flavor took over. Who ever thought one could find a 1959 Cadillac sofa on the internet with a simple Google search for "Cadillac Sofa"
The rest of the Cafe fell together nicely. We were able to find that old boomerang Formica from the 50's complete with chrome edge banding, traditional sparkely red vinyl booths, chairs and stools courtesy of Bars and Booths in West Virginia
Another Road Trip flavor is represented in our chair rail, which is made up of genuine license plates from all 50 states, surrounded by more 50's chrome, courtesy of our friends at Plates USA. It made for a nice marriage with the ceiling border made from old 45 rpm records

Cadillacs, Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn, Marlon, Betty Boop and Route 66 folklore have married well with Wifi X-Boxes, networked PC's and MP3 player wall jacks. The teens are working the Cafe with professional restaurant software and training, thanks to a grant secured by Anne-Marie of the staff. All in all, it was a fun and rewarding experience for us a White Builders and we hope to do more in the future (White builders has never recieved nor asked for compensation for any work done at the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn)
